Handling Cut Ends
"After cutting rails, prepare the surface by removing all metal shavings, moisture, dirt, grease, loose paint particles, etc., from the cut area using steel wool, fine sandpaper or a wire brush.
Shake can of zinc-rich galvanize protective coating, meeting ASTM B-117064 specifications, vigorously for two minutes after the rattle of the agitator ball is heard and intermittently during use. Do not apply when the temperature is below 5° Celsius or if rain is imminent within 6 hours of application.
Apply protective coating to cover the cut edge by holding the can 10-12 inches from the surface, carefully pointing spray towards the cut edge in a steady back and forth motion to avoid drips or runs. Let the material dry between coats. When the galvanized coating is dry, apply a coat of colour-matched touch-up paint over the protective coating. Let the material dry between coats.
*Failure to seal exposed surfaces correctly may cause red rust to form and will void the warranty."
